Quality moisture meters usually have a measuring range of about 5% - 90%, depending on whether it's used for wood or building materials, with an accuracy of +/-0.5. This means you only need a meter that can measure about 7% - 80% of the moisture content. Any measurement above 90% is usually inaccurate, as that is an indication that there's too much water in the wood. Likewise, any measurement below 5% may present a false reading, because the moisture content is too low for detection.
