A room of about 150 to 250 square feet will require an AC of about 6000 BTUs while a room of 350 to 400 square feet will need an AC with about 9000 BTUs.

Split ACs are efficient for cooling your home, but this efficiency is dependent on the Seasonal Energy Efficient Ratio (SEER). The higher the SEER of your unit, the more efficient it will be. Energy-star rated split ACs will reduce your energy bill, so it’s preferable to go for products that are already Energy-star rated.
