Mr. Coffee Flintshire Stainless Steel Whistling Tea Kettle – Available in 4 Sizes

Mr. Coffee was started by Vincent Marotta and Samuel Glazer after they came up with the idea to make an automatic drip coffeemaker. After the success of the Mr. Coffee brand coffee drip coffeemaker, which offered a better flavor than the previously commonly used percolator, Mr. Coffee went on to create other bestselling products such as the Mrs. Hot Tea Maker and the Mr. Coffee Juicer. As time went on, Mr. Coffee grew but continued to create great products that have helped us make our favorite cup of coffee.

While coffee is undoubtedly Mr. Coffee’s specialty, the company made and still makes other great products not centered around coffee. The one we’re reviewing is the Mr. Coffee Flintshire Stainless Steel Whistling Kettle. The model we’re reviewing is the 1.75-quart, which costs $12.08 at most retailers but it also comes in 1.5-, 1.8- and 2-quart sizes. It has a large base, which allows it boil water more quickly. It’s made from stainless steel which protects it from rust and ensures it lasts, and the Bush Satin Finish adds to its aesthetic. It has a Bakelite handle which is not only resistant to heat but also to scratches and numerous destructive liquids. Overall, the Mr. Coffee Flintshire Stovetop Kettle offers great value for an unbelievable price.

Alessi "Tea Rex" Kettle in Mirror Polished 18/10 Stainless Steel with Handle And Prehistoric Reptilian Whistle – Available in 2 Colors

Alessi is an interesting company. It was founded in 1921 and was originally a workshop where brass, nickel and silver sheet metal were processed. Fast forward almost a century later, and now Alessi has become one of the leading factories in Italian design. Not only that, they have a unique way of harnessing cultural and traditional influences to design and create unique and high-quality products.

An example? The Alessi Tea Rex Kettle. The thing we love about this stovetop kettle is the whistle. Instead of a regular whistle, Alessi replaced the little bird with a neatly designed dragon, thus its name the “Tea Rex.” It costs $164 at most retailers, which is admittedly a high price for a kettle, but this Alessi cooktop kettle is one of the highest order.

It was designed by Michael Graves and elegantly made from 18/10 stainless steel. Works on nearly all stovetops including induction stovetops. The handle and the dragon whistle are made from a highly durable PA resin and are available in both black and blue. They’re also replaceable in case you want or need a new one, and the lid is stamped with the Tea Rex’s “30th Anniversary” seal. Its base is made wider than the top for a larger surface area so it boils water quickly so you can get your tea or coffee even when you’re crunched for time.
The Cuisinart Peak Whistling Kettle is made of stainless steel with a porcelain enamel exterior that comes in multiple colors. We have pictured this 2-quart tea kettle in graphite grey but it’s also available in other colors such as cobalt blue, red, black and white, as well as classic stainless steel without the enamel coating.

Cuisinart 2 Quart Peak Whistling Tea Kettle – Available in Six Colors

Cuisinart isn’t some random brand. We’ve all encountered it in one way or the other. It could be in your home, the store, your friend’s home, wherever. Cuisinart is a part of American life. It was started back in 1971 by Carl Sontheimer. He started Cuisinart so he could bring a food processor to the market, and that he did. It was a hit, and long story short, Cuisinart has come a long way. But they don’t only make food processors; they make all types of home appliances.

But even with their extensive lineup, we’re really focusing on one product right now, and that’s the Cuisinart 2 Quart Peak Tea Kettle. It only costs $39.95 and is well designed. It comes in multiple colors which include a deep Cobalt Blue and a subtle Graphite Gray. It’s built with stainless steel but comes with a lovely porcelain enamel exterior for both beauty and longevity.

This whistling kettle is built to not only heat up quickly, but also retain the heat quite impressively so you could always go back for a second or third cup of your favorite tea or coffee. On top of that, it’s also covered by a limited lifetime warranty which is always a nice comfort.
The OXO Good Grips Classic Whistling Kettle has an old school design with heat-resistant silicone touch points that will keep you from being burned while you make a nice cup or tea or hot chocolate. Alternatively, if you want a more contemporary design, try the OXO Good Grips Uplift Tea Kettle which is available in brushed or stainless steel.

OXO Good Grips Classic Tea Kettle in Brushed Stainless

OXO was started over 25 years after the founder, Sam Farber, saw that his wife had trouble using a peeler due to arthritis. He promised her he’d make a better peeler. And he did. Now that’s a sweet story, but it doesn’t stop there. Sam went on to create OXO, a company with over 1,000 products designed to benefit every man, woman, and child. It doesn’t
matter whether you’re right or left-handed, a teen just learning to cook, or a grandma making Sunday dinner for your family when you’ve finally gotten all of them under one roof: OXO has created something that you could use, and that’s pretty great.

The OXO product we’re looking at is the Good Grips Classic Tea Kettle. It’s available for $39.59 which is a good, affordable price. The high-grade stainless steel used to make it protects it from rusting so it’ll still look great even in the next decade. It has a loud whistle to let you know when your water is ready. The handle, spout, and cover have silicone touch points that are heat-resistant. This means you won’t be burned while filling, moving or pouring using the Good Grips Cooktop Kettle. The lid is large and the handle rotates, making it easy to fill and clean the kettle. It also makes storage less of a bother too.

How Do I Choose the Best Whistling Kettle?

Sometimes all you want to do is sit back, wrap up in your comforter (or duvet if you’re British) with a hot cup of tea and a good book. No work. No stress. No worries. Sure, it’s the 21st century and electric kettles are great, but sometimes it just can’t beat the wonder of hearing a stove top kettle whistle as it tells you your water is boiling and ready to be poured. Even with the popularity of coffee and the desire to have a top notch coffee machine, there are still many people who love and cannot do without a great tea kettle - and who can blame them? It’s wonderful! Even if you’re lucky enough to live somewhere that’s got great weather, your love of tea can be quelled with a nice iced tea instead!

One of the first things we’ll cover in this review is how to choose a great tea kettle. No matter what you’re buying, one thing you’ll want to know is that you’re spending your money wisely and that you’re getting value for your hard-earned cash, and that’s what we’re here to help you do. See, there are many different things to consider when buying a tea kettle and we’ll cover all of them, from how it’s built to the kinds of features it has and more. While most tea kettles are made from variations of steel, there are also cast iron kettles as well which may be heavy but boil water like nobody’s business. If you would like to experiment a bit, you could also have a look at an automatic tea brewer, which is similar to a traditional coffee maker but repurposed for tea-steeping.

#Note: Switched out the ‘dishwasher safe options’ as there’s otherwise no difference between it and a hand-wash kettle, and nothing showed up on the amazon search for it anyway. Replaced it with the automatic tea brewer.
Stove top kettles aren’t expensive. Sure, the prices will vary depending on the kettle’s capacity and the materials it consists of, but not by much. They’re typically built from steel or iron, which allows it to conduct the heat necessary for boiling water. Many are built from regular steel, stainless steel and there are even cast iron kettles as well. There are also those which are made from steel then coated in another material such as enamel, which gives it an entirely new look.

There are cheaper whistling kettles out there, but often those are poorly made and need replacing after a year or two. On the other hand, an affordable yet well made one can last you for decades, even a lifetime or two, which is exactly what most people are looking for when buying a tea kettle.

The price for a whistling kettle can range anywhere from $15 to about $90, or even more if you’re going with a designer brand. But we’ve made sure to feature high quality kettles at different prices, so no matter what your designated budget is, you can get a great kettle for it.
When you’re looking to buy a regular tea kettle, you’re looking for things that you wouldn’t necessarily look for when buying an electric kettle. After all, stove top kettles are much simpler and give that traditional and cozy vibe that you just can’t get from an electric kettle.

Here are the features you should consider when buying a stove top kettle:
  • Heating efficiency – how well does it boil water and what heating sources can you use it on
  • Whistle – the type of whistle used and if it can be easily replaced
  • Handle – whether the handle is metal or made from a heat-resistant material
  • Cleaning method – most tea kettles are hand wash but some are dishwasher safe too
Construction and Design
Stove top kettles are simple yet each has a feature that another may lack. Often when you’re looking to buy a whistling kettle, the first thing you should look at is its capacity. Some people may require a larger capacity kettle than others. It’s up to you, but generally most stove top kettles are 1.7 quarts. There are some that go over 2 quarts if you’re looking to regularly brew tea for more people.

The next thing to consider is the material. While steel is used to make most tea kettles, there are those with a stainless-steel finish which holds its shine much longer than regular steel. There are also those built from cast iron which is much stronger than steel, but which also makes it heavier. And lastly, the most decorative option are those tea kettles where steel/cast iron is the base material, but it’s coated with another material for design purposes. These tend to be more colorful, and may be the one for you if you prefer color over the monochromatic look. The handle is likewise important. Some kettles have metal handles while others are built with plastic or silicone covering, which allows you to pour your tea without any gloves or cloth covering.
Performance and Ease of Use
As we mentioned earlier, stove top kettles are simple and easy to use. The ones with plastic or silicone covered handle bars are undoubtedly much easier to use than those with metal handles because you don’t have to fear being burned in case you forget to use a glove. Cleaning is easy as well, especially those built from stainless steel. All in all, no matter the whistling kettle you get, once it’s well built, you’re in for pretty smooth tea making.
