How Do I Choose the Best Women’s Razor?

Mmm… I love that smell! That’s probably what you’re thinking as you apply bath and shower gel all over your body. But that smile is quickly cut short when you look at yourself in the bathroom mirror and you can literally see the hairs on your legs! I mean, it’s pretty acceptable most of time because most of us live in our jeans, so who’s to know, right? But what about when you’ve got a party, birthday or you just fancy getting your legs out because the weather’s nice!? Well, that’s when you’ll turn to your trusty razor, but which one should you get?

There’s so many different types of razors out there. We have done full reviews on products from five great brands, but there were many more that simply didn’t fit. For example, you could opt for a razor handle with multiple razor heads, like the The Ultimate Shave 5-Blade Razor with 12 Refills. Or, perhaps you’re more of a traditionalist and you want to go for a classic safety razor. We all know there’s no better brand than Parker for those. Some brands are even creating new and innovative travel shavers. The Sphinx All-in-One Travel Shaver is a round contraption with 3 possible attachments. Use the water spritzer to moisten your legs, the lather bar to well, lather up and then the razor for a smooth, clean shave! Ingenious!

The best non-electric women’s razors are designed to give you super smooth skin. You don’t want to shave only to be left with bumps and cuts all over your legs, arms, and other parts of your body. Have you ever sneakily tried out your other half’s razor and realized how much better it is than yours? Not fair, right? Well, you’ll be pleased to know that the women’s razor industry is quickly catching up to the men’s, with most decent razors having at least 3 or 4 blades to give you a smooth shave. There’s a lot of other things to consider other than the number of blades though. Let’s check them out.
Price
The price of a non-electric razor will, of course, be cheaper than an electric one, which is probably why they’re so important. But even if you want to save some money by choosing this option, you certainly don’t want to compromise on quality or performance. A good non-electric razor for women can cost anywhere between $5 and $40 depending on a few things. On the cheaper end of the scale, you’re probably looking at disposable razors that only last a couple of uses. They’re also likely to only have a couple of blades. On the higher end, you’re likely to get a larger pack size or a razor with removable/interchangeable heads. This means you keep the handle and just replace the razor head when needed. They’ll last a lot longer than disposables and will probably have 3, 4 or even 5 blades.

Now, there’s probably a cheap women’s razor that’ll cost you even less than $5! We have not featured any of these on our list because they’re likely to be poor quality, not give you a good shave and they’ll be more likely to cause cuts which, us ladies, know is a pain in the…ankle usually.
Features
Getting rid of body hair is probably what’s motivating you to get a non-electric razor. But there are several features you should put into consideration before purchasing one.

A few to consider are listed below:
  • Type – Some razors are made to be reused while others are disposable
  • Materials- They’re made of either chrome or plastic
  • Handles – Some razor handles are made of smooth rubber while others have a textured rubber grip
  • Blades – You can find one containing anything between 1 to 5 blades
  • Lubrication – Some come with a lubrication kit for a smoother shave
  • Color – Razors come in a wide variety of colors
Construction and Design
For home use, you choose a reusable razor that gives you maximum value for your money. But if you just want to use it while on a trip away from home, then a disposable razor would serve the purpose.

If you want to maximize the value you get from a razor in terms of the number of shaves you get from it, then it would make sense to pick one made of chrome. Chrome is a long-lasting material that guarantees a long use life. Maybe you just want to use one a toss it, though. You’d buy a plastic one in this case.

The higher number of blades is aimed at smoothening your shave. You’ll get a smoother shave using one with five blades than you would with a three blade one. However, if you only intend to use the razor for your eyebrows, then the single blade one would work best on those edges.
Performance and Ease of Use
For the smoothest skin after the shave, get one one that comes with a lubricating serum. If you only intend to shave a small area or have some other form of lubricant at home, then you’ll be fine with one that doesn’t include it.

Depending on your budget, you’ll choose between a smooth rubber handle or a textured rubber handle. The textured rubber gives you a better grip, meaning a more focused smooth shave. One with a smooth rubber handle would work just fine too. It just depends on the areas of your body you want to shave. For instance, if you want to trim your eyebrows, a smooth handle shaver would do the job.

These razors come in a wide variety of colors depending on your tastes and preferences. If you’re into dark colors, then you might get a blue one. There are plenty of bright colors too if that’s your thing. Everyone loves pink!

Gillette Swirl Women's Razor Handle with 2 Razor Blade Refills – Available in 2 Colors

Gillette Razor Venus Swirl – Purple w/ Handle & 2 Refills

Features
Gillette is a brand that barely needs an introduction. I’m sure when you first think of Gillette you think they’re “the best a man can get”, however, you would be mistaken my friend. Yes, Gillette did only manufacture men’s razors for the first hundred years of their business, however, they soon caught on to women’s desire to have just as good, if not better, razors than they were used to.

We’ve all heard the phrase, men are from Mars, and women are from Venus; well Gillette did do (well, it was probably the song, when we think about it). And this may be why they named their entire women’s collection Venus. Since its release in 2001, Venus has grown and innovative to bring women a better, smoother and healthier shaving experience.

We’re featuring the new Swirl razor from Venus; their latest innovation. The Swirl razor’s main feature is the FlexiBall. This FlexiBall is the pride and joy of Gillette right now. With this technology, the blade should travel more smoothly over the skin, especially in hard to maneuver areas, like the knees and ankles. (Yup, every woman is now thinking of the times when you look down and suddenly there’s a trickle of blood making its way down your ankle). Well, with the Swirl razor this should be a thing of the past.

This razor also features:
  • 5 contour blades: 6 x more flexible than their original razor
  • MoistureGlide serum: for irresistibly smooth skin
  • MicroFine comb: guides the hair into the razor so that no hair is missed
  • Specially formulated Swirl shaving gel to give you a 5 x smoother shave
Although Swirl is the newest line in Gillette women’s razors, sometimes the classics never go out of style. Other collections from Venus include: Venus Original, Venus & Olay, Venus Embrace, Venus Breeze, Venus Bikini and Simply Venus.

Features
Personna was the first company to launch a safety razor in the US. Founded in 1875, they’re building on over 135 years of experience in the wet shaving industry. They strive for innovation, constantly trying to exceed consumer expectations when it comes to shaving. They have many lines of razors in both the men’s and women’s department.

The Personna Halo Disposable Razors is a pack of 9 razors each with 5 blades each. Usually, when you think of disposable razors you think of a harsh, uncomfortable shave, but with these 5 Comfort Coated blades, that’s a thing of the past. The blades run smoothly across your skin and offer a close shave. Personna uses the same high-quality blades in their disposable razors as they do with their reusable ones.

The rounded cartridge of the razor allows you to seamlessly work around every curve, so no need to worry when you get to a difficult spot. Personna understands that shaving can cause your skin to become irritated, so to protect against this they’ve incorporated a Moisture Halo strip. This strip includes shea butter and jojoba oil, dermatologically tested for sensitive skin, which soothes and moisturizes as you shave. With so many razors in a pack, they’re ideal for taking on trips, to the gym or an overnight stay somewhere; just grab and go!

Schick Women’s Razor 00700 – Hydro Silk Non-Electric

Features
Schick is not a newbie when it comes to shaving. They’ve been creating quality razors for years and it shows in the innovative ranges they develop. Their collections include: Hydro Silk, Quattro for Women, Intuition, Xtreme3, Slim Twin and Silk Effects. All these lines offer something a little different such as the Xtreme3 razors with triple blades for a smooth shave or the Intuition collection where the shaving gel is infused right into the blade.

Today, we want to talk about the Hydro Silk range. We all know what it’s like when you run out of shaving foam or the cold, wintery days dry up your skin. The Hydro Silk range aims to counteract this by providing the most moisturizing razor blade yet. There’s a hydra-boost serum with shea butter that is water-activated and has been proven to moisturize your skin up to 2 hours after you shave!

It features 5-blades that curve to provide the closeness required for a good shave. Schick knows the battle of trying to access hard to reach areas, and so they’ve created a cartridge that’s just the right size to reach them. Skin guards will smooth the skin which helps stop any irritation while shaving and the soft, ergonomic handle will give you all the control you need. Schick really has gone the extra mile with this handle though. It’s shaped so that when you put your razor down flat in the shower, the blades won’t be submerged in water, making them last a whole lot longer!

We’re featuring the Hydro Silk Refillable Razor with 2 razor cartridges, however, there are different styles and bundles to choose from. You could go for the:
  • Hydro Silk Sensitive Care Razor with 2 Cartridges: Ideal for those with sensitive skin
  • Hydro Silk Gift Set: Which includes a Hydro Silk razor handle, 2 cartridges, Skintimate Skin Therapy Sensitive Skin Shave Gel and a holder for your razor
  • Hydro Silk Value Pack: Includes one razor handle and 5 cartridges in a hanging refill hook so you never have to leave the shower to change your razor head again
  • Hydro Silk Value Pack with Shave Gel: In this bundle you get the handle, 5 cartridges with the hanging hook and the Skintimate sensitive shaving gel
The Shiseido 9-Pack Facial Razors feature a single, sharp blade with safety guard to help you safely shave your cheeks, forehead or eyebrows. If you’d prefer a razor that has the traditional shape but is smaller for hard to reach areas, you should take a look at the Shiseido Mini Head Razors for Finishing.
